With this incredibly warm, dry weather, it’s easy to think it’s already midsummer and yet we’re in mid-May, with still so much of the growing season ahead of us. I’m reminded of this every time I step foot inside our Hub in London and see the variety of plants we have in there for our customers and the different growth stages they’re at – for every Geum or Nepeta in wonderful, full bloom, there’s an Echinacea or Dahlia whose growth is only just starting. That’s perhaps the thing I love most about plants, gardens and indeed the seasons and why we always try to ensure there’s year-round interest in our Instant Beds and Plant Collections.
It’s been a whirlwind few months for all of us at Dig – since being on Dragons’ Den back in mid-February, we’ve been pretty much non-stop in our efforts to get plants out to all our customers. This has been a massive step-change for the business – we’ve gone from only being able to service some parts of England to sending plants right across the UK and worked through so many more orders and plants than ever before, in a very short space of time. I’ll be the first to admit that there have been numerous challenges along the way, but we believe our set-up is working, our packaging is strong and secure, the plants look better and better and I’m lucky we have such a great team at Dig HQ who have worked tirelessly every day.
Most importantly, we’ve only got this far thanks to the support and patience of our customers and followers – I know some of you had to wait longer than planned for the plants to arrive as we worked through many hundreds of orders, so I’m very grateful for your patience and understanding when you have been anxious to get their plants in the ground! We’ve learnt so much, got lots of input and feedback and we know we can always improve, so – again – thank you!
We’re really excited about what more is to come this year and can’t wait to share some more updates with you soon, but right now it’s all about the plants – it’s such a vibrant time of year for plants and gardens, and there’s still so much time to get plants in the ground so you can enjoy them this summer and beyond.
And although I’ve been in London a lot, I’ve still had the time to observe my own garden back in Wiltshire over the past few months. We’ve only been in our home for a year, so it’s been exciting to see what plants are there, which ones are established and what else is beginning to emerge. It’s a rather wild garden right now which I like (though I have plans for it in the future) and currently there are hundreds of orange and yellow poppies, purple shrub roses, deep pink peonies, deep blue Aquilegia and endless Lilac trees in full bloom. It’s a riot, for all the right reasons.
But for now, it’s back to Hub to get more plants into more boxes!
p.s. Don’t forget to water your plants!
