What plants you can expect in your Clay Lovers collection
Pittosporum ‘Tom Thumb’
When grown in full sun, this compact, evergreen shrub has small, wavy, dark purple leaves and striking, dark grey or black young stems. With its distinctive rounded shape, and pretty leaves, this is brilliant, tidy shrub.
Persicaria affinis ‘Superba’
Geranium mac. ‘White-ness’
An undemanding, semi-evergreen ground cover with attractively divided, aromatic foliage, that may take on seasonal colour in autumn. In early to midsummer, this lovely perennial will also produce an abundance of small, pure white flowers.
Alchemilla mollis
Aster x Frikartii ‘Monch’
Luzula nivea
Although it looks like a grass, it isn’t! Rather, it’s a spreading, clump-forming evergreen perennial. It has rich, green leaves, which contrast with pure white summer flowers held on tall stems.
Sarcococca confusa
A dense, winter-flowering evergreen shrub, bearing sweetly scented, pure white blooms, in contrast with dark green leaves. It’s extremely tolerant of shade and beautiful to the eye.
Astrantia major ‘Roma’
The staple of any Cottage garden, this Astrantia has sumptuous red-purple, pincushion flowers with pink-purple tips, crowded together in a dome-shaped flower cluster. Stunning.
Astilbe ‘Sprite’
Delicate, divided leaves start chocolate-bronze when young, slowly changing to a very dark green. From them arrive triangular sprays of pale pink, fluffy flowers. They last for weeks, imperceptibly deepening to chestnut and finally reddish-brown seed heads.
Polystichum setiferum
Commonly known as the Soft Shield Fern, it is a popular evergreen to semi-evergreen fern prized for its elegant, shuttlecock-like rosettes of lacy, tactile foliage. Native to Britain and parts of Europe.
